Advanced Students Creating Movie Magic
August 15, 2007
Fall is football time and the season's rolling, and so are the cameras. Advanced students in the Computer Applications program here at GAVC have been hard at work to bring their home schools full length features to highlight their football teams. Students like Tommy Doran, Ryan Funk, and Charlie Schroba, all of Morris, take care of everything involved in the production of these highlight films; from video taping the games on Fridays to the actual capturing and video editing of the footage they shot. Using programs such as Adobe Photoshop and PremierPro these students are able to bring their teams professional grade work that sits par with some of the highlight reels you might see on television. Eventually, once the entire production has wrapped it is these same students who will package the films with an original design and fit the discs with their own labels. Morris has highlight films in current production with a game being tacked on each week, which will continue until the seasons are finished. The video editing and film production is not limited to school based projects, however.
Computer Applications students are also putting their video editing skills to work. When a student has learned the workings of the video editing software Premiere Pro CS2, they are instructed to complete a final project with the topic of their choice. Students are creating skate board videos, family videos, senior videos, etc. They have been watching, cutting and editing clips. They also add the finishing touches, such as student-created music and special effects, to their video. The students will eventually receive a grade based on the quality of their work in the finished projects.
